Going Green isn't just about saving money, it isn't just about saving resources, it isn't just about making our homes and communities nicer places to live... It's about all of these things.
There are many ways to make even minor changes in your home and business that can help you become "greener". One simple and inexpensive change anyone can do is to replace all of your incandescent light bulbs to CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs. A 13 watt CFL bulb has the light equivalent to a 60 watt incandescent. The CFL bulb, however, will last, on average, ten times longer. The average incandescent will last 1,000 hours, while the CFL will last 10,000. The cost savings for the bulbs alone will pay for itself, but their real savings comes in using them. At 13 watts, the CFL requires less than a quarter of the electric than the 60 watt incandescent, to burn. That means it uses 1/4 of the electricity.
For even greater savings LED (light emitting diode) is the ideal choice. While CFLs last, on average, 10,000 hours, LEDs last 70,000 hours! And, they use even less electricity. They come in a variety of colors. Not red, blue, and green, but a variety of whites, allowing you to make a room warmer with a yellow or pink white, for a living room, or cooler with a blue white for an office or kitchen. They are also dimmable making them ideal for the bedroom and dining room.
